Well, you’re receiving this on December 31st, 2021, otherwise known as the last day of the year, otherwise known as New Year’s Eve. For me, December always seems to drag on. Every day this week, I’ve been like “oh tomorrow’s New Year’s!” only to realize it was not, until yesterday and for you right now, today. Here we are!
To mark this passage of time, I’ve decided to share some highlights and lowlights from the year of our lord 2021. Why not, right? I don’t know if I have any firm conclusions on what my year was like overall, and on that decisive note, let’s get into it:
Highlight: Kristina and I got paid to sit in a tub
In early 2021, Kristina and I filmed a webseries of sorts called “Tubbin’ & Lovin’” for the breakout app Rizzle (you’ve heard of it, unless you were living under a ROCK!!!!!!!!!!). The concept of the series is “a reality dating show that takes place in a tub.” It was a viral success (to my parents) and it was absolutely batshit bananas and I loved it! I laughed a lot with my silly friend Tina and we wore funny wigs and weird outfits and said many stupid things while we were wet and cold. Special shoutout to the devoted fans who pointed out that we really didn’t *need* to fill the tub with water.
Lowlight: the pandemic
God, this thing fucking sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Winter 2021 was miserable!!!!!! I avoided everyone!!! In February, I didn’t see Al for two weeks because someone like two steps removed from us got covid!!! And it looks like I might be avoiding people in winter 2022 which fucking sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And everyone I know got vaccinated!!!!!! I hate this virus!!!!!!!!!!! I want to live out my twenties!!!!!!! I’m so hot right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Highlight: I took many fun trips with Al, including one to Northampton where we got stuck on a trail that was a sheet of ice.
Northampton is really cute and gay and we did a fun, but steep hike in early March when the snow was defrosting and the path was muddy. We decided we wouldn’t hike down that same route because it felt dangerous, so instead, we walk to the opposite end of the mountain (don’t even know if you could really call it a mountain), hearing rumors of a paved road. The road was paved but it was also covered in a thick sheet of ice that didn’t clear until we got to the bottom. It was actually very terrifying, but I was glad to have traversed it with Al because we just kept laughing. When we got to the bottom we both turned to each other and were like “we really could’ve died, huh?!! Wanna get a drink???”
Lowlight: I learned I’m allergic to dogs and cats (kind of a lot) :(
Highlight: I started hosting an open mic with Kristina in April!!!
Having a consistent comedy show (going on 10 months!) with a dear friend has been such a source of joy. It’s been a very special way to see people again, laugh again, and be stupid again!!! I have a whole host of comedy goals for 2022 that I won’t bore you readers with, but know that more is a-comin’ and for now, enjoy the above photo of me and Tina HOSTING!!!
Lowlight: This summer was HOT and RAINY!!!!
I am a summer girl and it made me sad that this summer in particular was so disgusting weather-wise. This is how I looked all summer!! P.U.!!!!!
Highlight: This summer was FUN!!!!
I spent lazy afternoons with my dearest friends! I moved into a studio apartment! I turned 25! I celebrated one year with Al! I got to swim many times in lakes and oceans! PRIDE!!!!! It was a hot, hot summer, and it was one for the books :’)
Lowlight: Al sprained their ankle and we spent 5 hours in the ER
Hell on earth is an ER during a pandemic. It is scary and stressful and the doctor told us to our faces that we were ignored for two hours. It was truly a miserable experience and there’s not much else I can say other than it’s good that they gave Al’s ankle superpowers, otherwise the whole thing would have been useless.
Highlight: Went to my first adult wedding and it was so magical!!!
Again, I don’t have much to say other than I love love!!!!!!!!!! And sorry too this picture is so bad!!!!!
Ending on a highlight: I started working at The Daily Show!
It’s been a true dream, especially because they let me pitch dumb stuff like this!
Some other notable highlights:
I played Capture the Flag in the spring and it was one of the purest experiences of joy I’ve ever had.
I got to spend lots of quality time with the fam. <3 Some standout moments include: holidays, lavender AND blueberry picking, and of course RHINEBECK, NY’S SHEEP AND WOOL FESTIVAL.
My highlights (like the ones I got in my hair, ha ha!)
Happy New Year everyone!!! Thanks for reading my goofy lil newslettah, if you like it, why not:
