The world is on fire right now innit?? We’re going to war, queer people being dehumanized; there’s a lot of hellish news right now and it’s hard to feel optimistic about the future at all. I have nothing new or particularly insightful to say about these current events apart from sharing some donation links that I encourage everyone to contribute to. As always, no one comes to this newsletter for topical comments or revolutionary analyses of the day’s news. The world is horrible, you know it and I know it. You come to this newsletter because… well, why do you come to this newsletter??? Apart from the fact that you’re all in love with me. Be honest.
In an effort to provide some sort of entertainment or distraction or something, I’m going to share how my week has been, which extraordinarily has been busy because I’m on vacation?!?!?!? There’s nothing quite like watching World War Three start while you’re sitting poolside in the desert. Maybe I am the problem (I am).
So with that elegant transition, let me share some highlights and lowlights of my silly little week in Sunny LA. I hope it brings some levity to however you’re feeling.
Highlight: JOSHUA TREE!!!
What the fuck?!? This exists on this planet??? Tell me how!!! Joshua Tree was so unbelievably gorgeous I truly got verklempt driving through. It is magical! Words can’t describe just look at this damn place!!
Lowlight: ‘s been a lil chilly!
That’s barely a lowlight lol, it is inherently more gorgeous on this coast during this time of year, and I’m really soaking up the sunny skies and big green mountains. But, I really did pack for the weather I wanted (70+) and not the weather I had (50s). But that’s ok! Look how cute I am regardless!
Highlight: My dearest sister/mother Aliza and I spent three days at a literal spa in the desert (!!!!)
I could write four highlight blurbs about this one stay but that would get annoying so instead let me summarize: we had a mineral-water tub IN THE ROOM; there was a sauna, a salt room AND an ice room and let me tell you they were all very luxe and sublime; and we got MASSAGES!! If you’re wondering what you do in the various rooms the answer is simply: sit. We did a lot of sitting and deep breathing and if that was the key to relaxation all along, I have no clue how I’m so stressed all the time. It’d help if I had those rooms in my studio apartment in Brooklyn. Who do I have to talk to to set that up?
Lowlight: Haven’t had an original thought about LA
I get it! It’s gorgeous! Quality of life is better! Stress levels are lower! New York dwellers maybe should accept that they are worthy of more space and an an easier, happier existence! I get it!!! I GET IT!!!!!!!
Highlight: Rly great eats
Shoutout to Aliza for cultivating an excellent eating tour of LA. I didn’t take as many food pics as I should have but I do have these cute pics of me immediately after eating:
Joyous! I love to eat!!!
Anyway, I suppose that’s it for now. I hope everyone has been able to take care of themselves in whatever way they can, and plz donate to the above links if you’re able! Reposting them here:
